Karamajong Jug 18
This beautiful jug is part of our special collection which took 8 years to curate. Each container is hand-carved from indigenous wood by the Karamajong people of Uganda who are livestock farmers. Due to the arid climate in which they live, every 3 to 4 months the Karamajong people will move their cattle in search of water and pasture and they are skilled in creating functional pieces that are easy to transport from materials readily found in their harsh desert environment.
The design of the jugs have been developed over the years and the final design depends on the skill and ingenuity of the maker. These jugs were originally used to collect and store milk before being lovingly restored. The wood has taken on a beautiful patina and wear after years of use.
