Dinka Headrest 02
This simple and elegant three-legged headrest comes from the Dinka Lotuku people of South Sudan. The Dinka people are nomadic farmers and herders are have excelled in the craft of small, easy to carry objects. Headrests and stools, known as thoch, are amongst these precious objects. Whilst used primarily as a headrest they would often be used by the elders in the community as a stool as well.
Each headrest is hand-carved from a single block of indigenous wood to unique and individual organic shapes and are very personal items that embody the soul of the owner.
The wood has taken on a beautiful patina and wear over use and time with natural imperfections.
