Dinka Headrest 08
This elegant and sculptural headrest is part of an incredibly special collection of pieces which took 8 years to curate and is an incredibly rare find. This simple and elegant three-legged headrest comes from the Dinka Lotuku people of South Sudan. The Dinka people are nomadic farmers and herders are have excelled in the craft of small, easy to carry objects. Headrests and stools, known as thoch, are amongst these precious objects. Whilst used primarily as a headrest they would often be used by the elders in the community as a stool as well.
Each headrest is hand-carved from a single block of indigenous wood to unique and individual organic shapes, often with four or more legs and are very personal items that embody the soul of the owner. Dinka headrests are prized for their rarity and larger size making them the perfect vintage investment piece.
The wood has taken on a beautiful patina and wear over use and time with natural imperfections.
